Contract awarded to deliver infrastructure support to Peterborough’s Voluntary and Charity Sector
Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service (PCVS) is delighted to announce that they have won a 3-year contract with Peterborough City Council to deliver infrastructure support to local charities and community groups.
PCVS was set up in 1980 as an umbrella and network organisation to the voluntary sector in Peterborough and over 40 years later, they still provide essential support to the Peterborough community and their 500 members.
PCVS is pleased to be working with Peterborough City Council to deliver infrastructure support to organisations who need guidance on starting a new group, business planning, securing funding, legal structures and governing documents. This support will be delivered in the form of group sessions however, one to one sessions will also be offered for organisations to get advice in a confidential setting on their infrastructure queries or to help trouble shoot specific issues on an individual basis.
Matt Oliver, Head of Think Communities at Cambridgeshire County and Peterborough City Council says, “We are delighted to be able to continue our partnership with PCVS through the award of this contract. We have achieved some amazing things together through the pandemic, working jointly to ensure that community groups have the information, guidance and support that they need to be resilient to the challenges of the past 18 months. We are blessed with tremendous community spirit in Peterborough, and we are proud to make this investment, which will support local groups and organisations to help us meet the needs of our citizens together in the future.”
The new contract is due to start in December 2021 but PCVS is already offering support through an existing contract by recently holding sessions on business planning and legal structures. Sarah Woodbine, Training & Volunteer Coordinator who delivered this training says “So far over 20 groups have attended and already we are making a huge difference. For example, the Romanian community in Peterborough attended both sessions and with the guidance received, have since have become a constituted group. This is fantastic news as it will enable them to apply for grant funding to ensure their future is viable. I am absolutely thrilled to have secured council funding so that we can continue to help other organisations in this way, delivering the vital support they need to run their entities and ensuring that Peterborough’s voluntary and charity sector thrives”
PCVS will be running their one to one trouble shooting sessions this month on the 20th and 28th of October. To book your place or for information on the sessions please email
